A local photographer asked if she could come by and photograph the baby as
soon as possible for her studio. It took us a week to feel like we
had enough of a handle on the daily routine to have someone come in to our
home. She was hoping to take pictures of him sleeping, as the
newborn she had previously used (a friend of ours) refused to close
her eyes. No problem, we thought, since Lucas always slept after
nursing and always slept more in the morning. She arrived and he was
wide awake. So she waited while he nursed. Still wide
awake. Finally, we decided to go ahead with the shoot. I
believe she was mumbling something about "alert, drug-free
newborns" when she left.
